Maria's song: I feel pretty
A Song of Self-Acceptance
2007_12_14 + Let me take you in my arms again |
lyrics:
Stephen Sondheim |
|
MARIA I feel pretty Oh so pretty I feel pretty and witty and gay And I pity Any girl who isn't me today I feel charming Oh so charming It's alarming how charming I feel And so pretty That I hardly can believe I'm real See the pretty girl in that mirror there? Who can that attractive girl be? Such a pretty face Such a pretty dress Such a pretty smile Such a pretty me! I feel stunning And entrancing Feel like running And dancing for joy For I'm loved By a pretty wonderful boy |
GIRLS Have you met my good friend Maria The craziest girl on the block? You'll know her the minute you see her She's the one who is in an advanced state of shock She thinks she's in love She thinks she's in Spain She isn't in love She's merely insane It must be the heat Or some rare disease Or too much to eat Or maybe it's fleas Keep away from her Send for Chino This is not the Maria we know Modest and pure Polite and refined Well-bred and mature And out of her mind! Miss America, Miss America, speech! Miss America, bravo, speech! American Musical Theatre of San Jose production , Nov. 2005 |
MARIA I feel pretty Oh so pretty That the city should give me its key A committee Should be organized to honour me I feel dizzy I feel sunny I feel fizzy and funny and fine And so pretty Miss America can just resign See the pretty girl in that mirror there (What mirror, where?) Who can that attractive girl be? (Which, what, where, whom?) Such a pretty face Such a pretty dress Such a pretty smile Such a pretty me! MARIA & GIRLS I feel stunning And entrancing Feel like running and dancing for joy For I'm loved By a pretty wonderful boy |
Performance Riverside opens its 2007-2008 season on September
14th with
one of musical theatre's most unforgettable masterpieces, West Side Story "The fact that the social problem of gang violence has become even more complex in the fifty years since the opening of the original Broadway production of West Side Story is tragic," says Perfor-mance Riverside's Producing, Artistic Director, Rey O'Day. "However, it is the passion of the story and the hope that young people feel that keeps the story fresh even today. Every time I see this show my heart soars and my soul is deeply moved all over again." Mp3 Clips: "Maria" ~~~ "Tonight" ~~~ "Somewhere" |

Another Song about Self-Acceptance,
Neil Diamond
: Let me Take You in my Arms Again You'd be better off, I know With another kind of man All I got is what I feel And what I feel is what I am So let me take you in my arms again I'm like a train that's rolling on a track You'd be better off, I know
Let me take you in my arms again

continued in order to be completed
The next early morning, |
I don't eat breakfast so early, but as usual when
I was at Shoham,
I sat with her and made fun with her, - this time with the balloon,
which Abba had brought her: a balloon that speaks and screams...
First she kneels on the mattrass, |
Then she demonstrates, |
Imma comes in to call Mika. She sits in the chair opposite the mirror. She doesn't look well and I feel sad.... I voice, that I want to see Mika off to the car in the underground parking-lot, and at the same time walk Nella. I ask: "Mika, do you want to take the lift, or do you one more time want to walk down the stairs?" Of course she prefers the stairs |
This was our last hour in Mika's home at Shoham,
before she left for noon-school,
which now, during the Chanuka holiday, takes place from morning to afternoon.
Then she will return to her official school, where she quickly learns
the Alef-Beth
with no sad connotations like that of
Jewish children in exile in the following song:
5 days after we had parted,
Mika sent greetings from Shoham.
And a week later a phone message:
"This is Mika, greetings from Thailand".
In three of the five hearts she put the letters
s - m - kh
j o y o u s
