The Bir'am model is still very
relevant for Israel and for the world.
Moreover, without the intense work of a whole year on this model,
I would not have succeeded in creating the
Succah 14 years later.

The Bir'am people had hoped, that the right wing
goverment under Menachem Begin would offer them their village on a
silver-plate.
I knew, this could never happen, because once Begin would understand,
that all cultivable lands were in the hands of Jews,
he could not afford to go on with his wish - which was sincere but
unpolitical - to resettle the Bir'am people.
I therefore took up the case anew, about 7 months after Begin came
to power.
The letter to Begin - followed by the explanation of the principles
underlying the Bir'am model - was answered by a secretary.
She even fixed an appointment for a meeting, but, of course, it was
cancelled and never renewed.

1) Starting with the relatively
easiest problem
In the period between August 1975 and July
1976, a proposal was developed,
with the help of experts like economists and architects and government
officials, in systematic cooperation with the

BEHIND THE "BIR'AM MODEL"
1) "From easy to difficult"
In the period between August 1975 and
July 1976 a proposal was developed,
with the help of experts like economists and architects, and
Government employees,
with systematic participation of the people whose interest it
was, themselves -
the people of Bir'am on the one hand, and the people of Sasa,
Bar'am and Dovev
an the other hand.
The point of departure was our interest today and not the injustice
in the past...

In May 2009, shortly after I parted from "The
Walk about Love", Nimr Ismair wanted to meet me.
Next to the repair-shop, to which I had delivered my sand-polluted
camera during
the Walk's parade through Allenby street,
we discovered this little oriental restaurant.
To our surprise the owner and his mother were people from Rameh.,
where I had once stayed overnight in 1976 , when I still tried to
win over the Iqrit-people for my Partnership model.
Many of the people who were cheated by the Israeli army and government
just like the Bir'am people, found refuge in Rameh.
