Note about Camp David

Now, in 2002, not many remember "Camp-David",
but even at that time not many knew, what made it successful.

In January 1980, during our Partnership journey in the USA,
I went to see Prof. Roger Fisher, Harvard University,
in whose book "Dear Israelis, Dear Arabs",
I found a similar, though less clear concept:
"Convert adversaries into friends!"
I say "less clear", because to be friends is not necessary.
To take care of my self-interest is necessary!

Prof. Fisher told me:
"I played tennis with the Foreign Minister, Vans,
and he asked me about ideas for Camp David.
I said to Vans:
"Confine the Israelis and the Egyptians to separate rooms.
Then circulate a paper between them, back and forth,
on which they have to mark the paragraphs,
to which they do NOT agree.
In the end some paragraphs will not be marked by either side.
These then will make up the agreement."

I expressed my admiration for this manipulation, but added:
"But once they were up to new problems,
they reacted just as before, didn't they!"
He understood and called his assistant, a Jew.
"We have to introduce a learning element into our theory."

 

I follow my understanding and new lekh-lekhâ on January 1, 2009,
  that - after 7 years - I should no longer create new pages on my 2 websites,
but intermingle the evidence of new experiences with that on existing pages.
In this case: my experience with Neve-Shalom (April 19-21, 2009) during the
"Walk About Love 2009"

Most of the children in the Neve Shalom School come from Jewish and Arab villages in the the environment
and now wait for their busses to go home.

July 16, 2013 about Christa-Rachel Bat-Adam and Abie Natan If my constant consciousness/feeling during the day and dreaming during the night are not enough to "work out" something, I'm forced to wake up and turn and twist and moan and groan in bed , usually for 2 hours. It's this what happened tonight. Among the multitude of infos that came to me during the day, mainly from carefully selected and recorded TV programs, -integrated into what my task is: to be a pioneer of evolution in feeling~vibrating~wombing~understanding vicariously, there was just one "small" item, which caused the upheaval tonight. In the daily program in Channel 2, "Anashim" ("People"), a young woman, Jasmin Feingold, the Israeli champion in rowing... featured with her difficult story concerning her drowning for 4 min. 4 years ago, having never become "the girl I was before", regretting this, though, as she says, she also loves the girl she is now. Suddenly I heard, that she was born in 1989 as the daughter of Abie Natan: "who was forced by Law to pay ... but who never recognized her as his daughter until the end of his life in 2008." I became aware of my harsh judgment: "There is this man, one of the symbols for a peace-fighter,[see English Wikipedia] and he does not even accept nor meet his own daughter , not even before his death." [see Hebrew Wikipedia>family-life, but the "recognition" happened only in front of the Law] Even now - after some work I did tonight - I feel dismally disgusted with this man. Having been a mother of an "illegitimate" child, myself, plays a role in this. But a much more abysmal "hole", that is triggered by this man, is, to see the discordance in the lives of so many famous "good" people, who are not conscious of the "shadow" which they deny in themselves, leave alone know, that this "shadow" is reflected in the world around them. Well, my being triggered and being angry and disgusted only shows, what it means, that I am - as I understood and phrased these last days - a pioneer in feeling~vibrating~wombing~understanding vicariously, for whoever is not yet able to do that. That was the message "Abie Natan" tonight, which I want to re-member! After an hour or so into my nightly wrestling, I remembered what disgust hit me, when -in another channel, in the context of the overdue law in Ireland, that in cases of danger to health - a woman is allowed to abort an embryo, I had to watch, how the Chilean president praised the 'maturity' of a girl,, , for saying she wants to give birth to the baby she conceived by being raped This girl is 11 years old and had first applied for being allowed abortion.... The message is: "Exactly in these two cases you have to stand the test of in feeling~vibrating~wombing~understanding vicariously, knowing, that YOU are the perpetrator as well as the victim!" Remember [Green Book p.153, concerning Martin Luther King, John Lennon, Jesus]: "The difference between acting out emotions by giving them forms of violence" [even if only in your imagination] "and allowing them direct expression as pure emotion is going to bring the healing needed here."

 

Back to 2009- Neve-Shalom and the Walk about Love

 

An impressive perspective of Neve-Shalom

And this was my lonely sounding in the sanctuary

 

 

That evening some of the people - truly committed to the Walk about Love -
and not just "hitchhiking" on it, as my judgment says -
meet for the second time, in order to figure out a structure for continuous group-work,
with the aim - to share the responsibility with the leaders,,Rea Pasternak and Gil Sason.
Since the group is a bit too big (17 people in the end), the process is a bit tedious,
but as to its content and procedure - really good.

In the night I roam through Neve-Shalom one more time,
and compare the splendid villa of Abdul-Salaam and Aisha Nagar
with the simple houses of Eitan Kraemer and Nava and Kobi Sonnenschein.

 

 

The next morning, April 21, 2009

When we arrived - on Sunday, April 29, 2009 - above the eastern outskirts of Neve-Shalom, Wahat-al-Salaam
I knew, that it was a chance for me to do a deeper healing of my pains concerning this "place".
While the group was settling down at the edge of the forest above the village, I roamed around,
with the aim of finding a place, where my body and soul could find some peace and quiet.
I discovered it in the small and beautifully arranged graveyard below, just in front of Bruno Husar's grave.
After the second night I packed tent and backpack and enjoyed the 8 minutes of climbing up to the camp.
The sun and the shades of the trees painted pretty patters on the domes of the "Spiritual Center".

 

 

 

On the first morning Eitan Kraemer came in.
He wasn't too pleased with my having slept there,
but - being the "gardener" - he was entitled to give me permission.
I recognized Eitan immediately.
He is the husband of Smadar, one of my pupils in "Zionist History" and "Jewish Thought"
in the Seventies....
They were among the first people "to settle" at Neve-Shalom.
Eitan agreed with me, that the "settling" hasn't done the place any good...


That same trail we all climbed down again, when we were ready for this day's walk.
I jumped out of the group to enter the graveyard one more time
and complete the photographing of the graves amidst which I had found my rest...
To the right of my tent was the tomb of Tom, one of the 70 soldiers
killed in the army's helicopter accident near Sha'ar Yashuv in 1997.
The wish of the family to erect a memorial for this soldier recently,
pushed a strong divide between the Jewish and the Arab citizens of Neve-Shalom,
which reverberated throughout Istael.
I was told, that the memorial will be installed after all - on the basket ball ground of the village.

 

Behind the tent , on the other side of the little path
- Eitan, the gardener, and one of the participants in our 1977 Jewish-Arab summer-camp,
had shown me the grave of Pinchas Wellesley Aaron,
the grandfather of David Broza, and mentioned on Broza's website
as "co-founder of Neve-Shalom".
Pinchas had come to Neve-Shalom because of me,
and David Broza, who was one of the nine,
who composed a tune to the Partnership hymn,
said to me then in 1977: "In 2 years I'll be famous".
His impresario took care of realizing the prophecy...


I know, I sound cynical and judgmental, and I am.
It was Pinchas who told me himself, why he took care that the village evicted Rushdi Fadila.
And though Eitan now informed me, that Rushdi really had "a dark side",
and that at that time Aida, his wife, had even tried to commit suicide
and that Rushdi himself had delivered himself to a mental hospital,
I still believe, that a group which claims to present and represent "peace",
i.e. shalom, i.e. "wholeness",
should be capable of integrating all organs of its organism,
or to at least try to understand, why it attracted the sickness of one of its organs.
It's the same for "Walk about Love", and I'll soon come to that.

[July 29, 2009 - this promise will not be kept probably.
I should have done so, for instance,
when I re-edited the page of Nes-Harim,
where "Shai and his consorts" disrupted the harmony of the Walk.
But now I feel so out of place and out of time with my
"All Israel (=all humankind) are guarantors for each other",
that I don't feel like analyzing the Walk more than I've done so far.
By the way, exactly yesterday Tomer asked me to listen to a CD with David Broza,
whom he came to know and fall in love with only recently (he is 14).

 

The Walkers are seen through the gate of the graveyard at Neve-Shalom, in which I had put up my tent and slept in it for two nights:

It is the 21st of April and the Day of the Remembrance of the Holocaust....
