Where have all the Flowers gone
2009_09_30
While studying the Law of Attraction ( "Abraham:
The Vortex")
I feel, that songs like this are preventing us from realizing our dream.
The same is true for ~~~"How many roads must a man walk down"....
I, therefore, insert a continuation of the series "Our World of Colors",
in order to appreciate the beauty of the World which already exists!!
From there I focus on what improvements for the World I do desire!
2007_10_01 Where have all the flowers gone |
lyrics:
Pete Seeger 1958 in Hebrew: Arik Lavie |
tune:
Pete Seeger Like all people of "our kind", in the sixties and seventies we sang the song whenever we sang, which was often. Today I very much agree with Pete Seeger's own reservations, see below. |
See the
links to 3 original versions below. I myself sing the Hebrew version: |
Where have all the flowers gone? Long time passing Where have all the flowers gone? Long time ago Where have all the flowers gone? Girls have picked them every one When will they ever learn? When will they ever learn? |
Where have all the young girls
gone? Long time passing Where have all the young girls gone? Long time ago Where have all the young girls gone? Taken husbands every one When will they ever learn? When will they ever learn? |
Where have all the young
men gone? Long time passing Where have all the young men gone? Long time ago Where have all the young men gone? Gone for soldiers every one When will they ever learn? When will they ever learn? |
Where have all the soldiers
gone? Long time passing Where have all the soldiers gone? Long time ago Where have all the soldiers gone? Gone to graveyards every one When will they ever learn? When will they ever learn? |

IN this video Pete Seeger sings himself, Stockholm 1968
in the last stanza he exchanges "they" by "When will we
ever learn",
which has not been imitated in the Hebrew translation.
Important is what he says on the video after having sung:
"My only complaint about the song
is, that it's not specific enough,
it's too easy just to say: when will they ever learn,
without saying, what you're really talking about."

In this video it is Marlene Dietrich - praised by Pete Seeger in the above
video -
who had been singing the song in 1963 – with more stanzas than Pete
sings.
She sings it with so much emotion, that it's hard not to cry, seeing and hearing
her.

This seems to be a much earlier recording by Marlene Dietrich - in German,
because she is not seen herself, only a record is turning
