Mika
and her friends: "I want to know all the children of the world" Here she prevents Keshet (rainbow) to run towards the road with its cars. Mika and the World: Here she follows the TV reality series: A star is born The last event was too late for her to stay up. When - first thing in the morning - she asked me: "Who became the Star? " and I told her: "Diana!" she said: "I'm glad! I wanted her to win! But Ohad (one of the 3 finalists) --- he didn't feel hurt, did he?"

It's the First of September!
The summer holidays - so difficult for both, parents and children - have come
to an end.
Mika's age-group was moved to a new kindergarden, even closer to her home
than before.
While at Shoham Mika begins her first day - with immense eagerness and expectation,
I take 2 photos at Arad, before traveling by foot, bus, train and -from Lod
-my son's car.
The pomegranates on the tree, which I've not planted,
but tended with love, look impressive.
Some of them I had enveloped in paper-bags, but most
fruits fell prey to the egg-laying of a fly.
I still open each fruit, cutting out the worms and entangling what is sweet
and healthy to gnaw.
This is the house of my landlords, Ofir and Meital,
with a gate to the right, just before the house of Nitza and Shalom
(see an episode with them on Sept.12, inserted
in the "Cain-Pages").
The gate leads to my one-room flat, but also to the parking-lot on its veranda.
I used to close the gate to prevent dogs from shitting in "my" garden.
But whenever Meital or Ofir drive their car out through the gate,
they keave it wide open, and recently I finally surrendered:
Obviously the gate has to stay accessible even for dogs (cats creep in anyway),
as my entry-door is always open, day and night, at least when I'm home at
Arad.
But why this photo?
Because Ofir inadvertantly let me know,
that he is going to cut the crown of his palm-tree, so nothing but a column
will stay.
"It causes too much dirt on the lawn with
all that falls from the tree!"
I am sad ----- so this photo is a memorial to the soon-to-be-decapitated palm
tree.
My son (who would go on flight around 8 PM) asked me to
come earlier then usual,
since he needed to be back from fetching me, in order to welcome a special
visitor:
Ilana, who had been the head-mistress of Tomer's school at Ben-Shemen for
2 years.
Now she is on a sabbatical, but she still cares for him, admitting that he
is her favorite.
Is Tomer studying right now? He does not know, that his beloved head-mistress is with us at home. |
We are certain that we all owe it to Ilana, that Tomer has made great progress in learning, and was now elected for the class "Futurists"! Father, stepmother and Ilana tried to figure out, how Tomer can be better accepted by the staff... |
Mika - not getting attention - was allowed to watch TV in Tomer's room. When Ilana wanted to say good bye to her, she smiled, but see her face when Ilana dared to do what I would never dare -to hug her! |
Our
visitor left, and someone had to walk the dog. Since Mika still was in her mood of "not knowing me", and there were many feelings in me, aroused by the interaction I had witnessed which cried for being "breathed, moved, sounded", and integrated in my understanding, I took my cellphone (for what?) and descended with Nella. I always choose different pathes within the maze of "Yuvalim Neighborhood". This time, I reached the center of the maze, a not big, but pretty playground, the "Gan-Ha-Sella", [garden of the rock] I was delighted by what I saw: So many kids, so many fathers, and on the shaded benches also old people in wheelchairs and their (Philippine?) caretakers. It once more reminded me of that beloved biblical prophecy... |
And
thus it came to be, that I began to systematically photograph all the nine passages which lead to the rock-garden, sometimes in couples as above, sometimes as a trinity as to the right. |
Another
pair of passages, coalescing in the rock-garden. It's dusk and the pictures taken by the cellphone camera are hazy, but enlightened by street-lights |
And
yet another threesome of pathes, but not as symmetrical as the other one. A threesome of mother, boy and baby make this view dear to me |
Here I tried to get a view of the entire rock-garden, with the playground to the right and the overgrown crescent with the benches to the left
Across the grandfather, the mother and the children of all ages I discern the crescent and wheelchairs in between the benches
[and just
while I'm now - Sept.14 - looking at the heavy clusters of dates on
the photo, I'm being called by Efrat: "we are on our way to kindergarden and are singing the "Four Species Song": Why do you say there "tamar" (date-palm-tree) and not "lulav"? How should Mika explain this, when she will want to teach this song?" I tell her, that "lulav" means nothing but part of a palm-frond. The term appears neither in that biblical command of Leviticus 23:40, on which the swinging of the four species on Succot is based, nor in the midrash, which gives meaning to this command and which epitomizes my book "All Israel vouchsafe for each Other" See the letter with more info, which I wrote to Efrat right away, on the page where I inserted the "Four Species Song" of Dec. 2008.] |
I find an angle, from which I can catch all the five
palm-trees,
which give shade to the playground, though they are younger than those majestic
trees above the crescent
The next day, September 2, Thursday, is the first
"normal" day,
meaning that Mika is in kindergarden from 8:30 till 4:00 PM,
Efrat is at work, bringing and fetching Mika on her way,
and I am in my holy loneliness (with Nella) in the flat.
But since it's still very hot and still summer-time,
we spend a lovely time together in the pool.
How we enjoy our "Roller" icecream in our solitary corner. How Mika often endangers herself, like here - standing on the edge of the chair |
Stories
about Mika's understanding of the biblical stories told to her by her Grandma: "Sarah laughed?? God knew, that Sarah was very old and that she would have great pain during the delivery if Isaac!" |
