The Secret of Israel's Uniqueness
Not an article meant for publicity, but notes for a lesson.
From 1974-1977 I was teaching "History of Zionism"
at an Adademic Institute for future teachers.
The basic ideas had been evolving for 15 years,
ever since my eyes were opened - in
January 1959 - to really grasp something of the Holocaust, of Judaism
and of the State of Israel.
My Ph.D.
thesis furthered my thinking about the fact, that Israel's actions are
measured differently.
The excruciating experience with the news about a Palestinian prisoner who
had been tortured to death during the 1967 War
forced me - the former Christian, the former German - to really understand,
why Israel was unique,
though most Jews deny it and have - since the times of the Bible - always
wanted to be "like all the nations".
Attached to the above document I found another document
from the year 1980,
which not only gives an idea, how I prepared my lessons, but refers again
to the question about Israel's Uniqueness.
.
At that time I was no longer teaching "History of Zionism",
but "Jewish Thought" ,
to which a year later was added "Arabic Literature".
