Yael Gavish training a participant in the third
"Aetgar"
The first format for "FeelingTraining" is called "Aetgar ba-midbar",
"Challenge in the Desert".
After the experience of 3 times a full week with young people , age 14-17, we
created this prospectus:
A large photo of a stormy sunset over the cliffs of the Ramon-Crater, taken
by Efrat Lybrook,
and on the back of the photo the wording:
7 people stay for 7 days in 7 succahs in the Desert
and rule their lives by themselves.
The seven young
people (16-17) of the third "Aetgar"
wrote some wonderful impressions,
of which I made a composition of three
and used it as a flyer
(with an introduction, I'll translate:)
The history of "the
Aetgar":
"Succah in the Desert" is a hosting place in the desert and also a
vision about settling the Negev.
To the place which has been working already for 4 years - come individuals,
not masses.
For when individuals live - each one apart, but still together -
each one is more aware of his/her uniqueness
and therefore also a special togetherness is created.
[In Hebrew all the words: "individuals"
- "apart" - "together" - "special" -"togetherness"
have the same root.
"Aetgar
ba-Midbar" - challenge in the desert - started in summer 1994.
In three "aetgars" participated young people, mostly from Israel,
from Mitzpe-Ramon to Haifa.
Many of the graduates - who since then came back to the Succah 2 or 3 times
- had experiences
like those expressed by Shirlie Ben-Maeshi from Mitzpe-Ramon and Natan Meged
from Tel-Aviv .
Natan Meged later worked as a volunteer in the Succah [here he is seen in the kitchen, 16.12.95]. Natan is the grandson of a writer & journalist, Aharon Meged, who was the only one among the many who interviewed me and wrote about my "Partnership" work in the seventies, by whom I felt understood. |
Tom Recht wrote in English, since "most
of the week was going on in English",
because of Philip from England.
Moshe Klein, a great educator, a genius in
mathematics and one of my dearest potential partners,
was the only one, who joined me in conceptualizing the idea of the "aetgar",
also in 1994.
Following Gadi's great new proposal, that he would
be Avi's partner
by connecting it to his and Efrat's community work in Mitzpe-Ramon,
I did - again ! - the utterly futile thing :
I linked his idea to my own understanding of
Succah in the Desert as a "TRAINING
SPACE" for people who want to grow,
mainly for people who want to do "FEEL-TRAINING", like others do baseball
training.

What follows is probably the last and most poignant
prospectus [1999?]
among so many I had prepared in all those 14 years of my wandering life
about "Training in Feeling":
TRAININGinFEELING Re-Creation for the Soul in the
Desert and on the Desert-Sea How can distressing emotions be transformed
Just as someone trains in basket ball

2012-Arad
For more than 7 years the only surviving model
of my pyramidal tent was
stored - folded- on my veranda.
Now starchild Boris asked for it, so as to be able to retreat into his own space,
when he felt the need for it.
Ever since he has known me, he has also known the verse in Ecclesiastes:
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing
(see
the song, which includes metaphors for this law).
When Immanuel with Mika fetched me from Micha's family on Shabbat-morning, May
19, 2012
and drove me back to Arad [see
a sculpture about Mika inserted in Ki.s.s.-log May 19],
he first informed himself - with my landlord's help - about my computerized
irrigation system,
Then I asked him to walk with me 5 minutes to the
place, which I came to call "Pni-el",
the house, which Daniel has rented for a year, and which includes the one room
below,
which first Dafna and later also Boris rented from him.
I wanted to see, if and how Boris managed with the tent. I felt quite nostalgic....
see a picture
[with two other starchildren) of the time when I still lived in this tent myself
When we arrived, |
June 14, 2012
It seems, that Boris wants to move again,
first to Russia for a month
- he immigrated from there to Israel at the age of three,
then - the entire world is open to him, and my tent will return to me.
